August 1929: Los Angeles Municipal Airport, then known as Mines Field, encompassed 640 acres and had a 2,000-foot oiled strip and a parallel dirt strip. The road on the right is now Imperial Highway.

October 1947: The caption with this photo of Los Angeles Municipal Airport, dated Oct. 10, 1947, and published in the Jan. 2, 1948, Los Angeles Times, reported that the main passenger concourse was served by three modern terminals buildings. Six major airlines were operating at the airport, with passenger volume exceeding 100,000 a month.
