Know Your City No. 34 – Immanuel Presbyterian Church

Two images of the Immanual Presbyterian Church on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles.

Ray Graham’s image, above left, of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church appeared in the Dec. 21, 1955, Los Angeles Times as part of the Know Your City photography series. The original caption reported:

KNOW YOUR CITY NO. 34 –– This steeple, one of the most majestic in the city, towers high above a prominent thoroughfare. And it is easier than ever to see now because it just underwent a thorough cleaning. Surely you can guess. If not, answer on Page 26, Part II.

ANSWER––Of course, it is the beautiful belfry of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church on Wilshire Blvd. at the southwest corner of the Berendo St. intersection. …

The right image, by staff photographer Mary Frampton, appeared in the Oct. 11, 1986 Los Angeles Times.

The French Gothic revival style church opened in 1928. It has seating for about 1750.
