Aug. 6, 1969: Fishing boat owned by Ernie Pate sits on Malibu beach.
The caption in the Aug. 7, 1969, Los Angeles Times reported:
Ernie Pate, 60, sits on a piece of driftwood near his 67-foot fishing vessel that ran aground on a Malibu beach during heavy fog Tuesday.
Pate said he was returning from a fishing trip with a three-man crew when he lost his way. Pate, who has lived aboard the craft since buying it for $30,000 last spring, has negotiated with marine salvagers to tow the 30-ton boat to sea.
The fishing boat ran aground near the 18000 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. This stand alone image by Frank Q. Brown appeared on the Metro page.
