1963 Nisei Week celebrations

Aug. 17, 1963: Girls in Japanese kimonos perform traditional Ondo (festival) dances on a blocked-off segment of Weller Street near 1st Street as part of Nisei Week celebrations in Los Angeles.

The dancing was part of the 23rd annual Nisei Week festival in Little Toyko. The eight-day festival ended with a 2 1/2-hour parade viewed by 30,000 people. Actress Shirley MacLaine served as the parade’s grand marshal.
